Medicines: Use them Safely

Modern medicine has made our lives better in many ways. It has helped older adults live longer, healthier lives. But people over 65 have to be careful when taking medications, especially when they're taking many different drugs.

Because mixing certain medicines can cause problems, be sure to let your doctor know about all the prescription and over-the-counter drugs you are taking. Keep an updated list of medicines you are taking with you at all times.

Preventing Food-Borne Illness

Seniors have enjoyed a lifetime of experience shopping, preparing and eating food. Fortunately, Americans enjoy one of the safest, most healthful food supplies in the world.

But a lot has changed over that lifetime - from the way food is produced and distributed, to the way it is prepared and eaten. What is also changing is your ability to fight off dangerous bacteria that may invade your body though the food you eat.

The good news is that well-know saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" remains true.
